Tell us a bit about yourself...
My name is Greta, but I also have a second name, Futura, given to me by my family for reasons I couldn't quite explain. I was born in Prato, but as soon as I had the chance, I left to explore different cities, constantly moving until I arrived in Milan, where I've been living for about a year now.
I couldn't describe what I do with a single word. I work in all aspects of the image world, primarily as a photographer and content creator, but also posing as a model when I have the opportunity. I am the founder of Mulieris Magazine, a magazine and online platform that I manage with a team of women who are not only my business partners but also dear friends. It was this project, dedicated to the world of all-female art, that brought me to Milan.
How did your passion for photography begin?
I've loved photography for as long as I can remember, and I recall always begging my parents for disposable cameras as a child. Growing up, I realized I wanted to turn my passion for photography into my profession, so I started photographing my friends and other girls in my city and surrounding areas. At 18, I got my first real job with a company, creating content for Instagram and shooting commercial campaigns, an experience that allowed me to grow immensely and explore different facets of photography. I studied Photography and Cinema at the Bologna Academy of Fine Arts, then specialized in Media Technology at the University of Hamburg.
I have always been very passionate about art in all its forms, and I have always seen fashion as an artistic expression, especially the ability to transform an idea into something concrete and communicate and tell a story creatively through images.
I don't think my passion originated from one single thing. I believe it was many circumstances, situations, events, people, and elements, orbiting or having orbited around me, that influenced my way of being and my artistic vision.
What is your greatest dream?
Every time someone asks me about my dream, I say that I don't want to reveal my dreams to anyone, out of superstition. My greatest ambition, however, is to always be proud of what I do and to see my work grow more and more, both as a freelancer and with my project. I would love to make Mulieris Magazine an ever-growing reality that can promote and support many female artists and women.
In my phone's notes, I have a list of about two hundred wishes that I started writing years ago, many of which have come true, while others have not yet. I consider myself a rational dreamer. Many people cannot get what they want because they don't truly know their desires, but I think writing them down and having them clear in mind is a first step towards making them a reality.
What does "light" mean to you?
Light for me is clarity. It is what, in photography, allows me to see and capture what I see.
I have two apertures tattooed on my body, one open and one closed, which signify "total presence of light" and "total absence of light." It is a material and ideal representation of what light means to me, but it is also a metaphor for expressing the different emotional states one can experience in life, which balance each other out.
As a photographer, I always have to be good at managing light, and one thing I've learned is that artificial light can be managed by humans, but in the case of natural light, it can only be done if you decide to step out into the open.
