I'm Elena, I'm 28 years old, and I'm a graphic designer, though I find it a bit hard to define myself that way. I studied Design in Bolzano, where I experienced a very open attitude towards the rest of Europe and the world. During that time, I was often told that I wouldn't be able to build a brilliant future in Verona. So, when I decided to "swim against the current" and open my own studio 3 years ago, I named it Mezzopieno (Half Full).
The idea behind this project of mine and the leitmotif of my days is "problem solving" rather than "problem creating." Thinking positive, seeing the glass Half Full, instead of half empty.
Almost by mistake, during the quarantine, the poivorrei project was born, in collaboration with my two sisters who live in Sweden and New York, respectively. Initially, it was our personal list of things we wanted to do after the lockdown ended. Soon after, we created an Instagram account and a website, inviting our followers to share their own "poivorrei" (then I would like). We ended up publishing 90,000 phrases sent to us by many people.
I believe that design is not just about aesthetics; I've always thought it's something at our service. Something we can use to inspire others to change or take action. It was wonderful to see the impact this project had on people, and even more wonderful to know that we, in our own way, contributed to overcoming such a difficult time for everyone.
For me, "light" is unconventional beauty, which is the collection of details we notice in a person that make them special.
